Margaret Burns is a budding contemporary Artist based in Mount Pleasant, S.C. Her passion is nature and scenic coastal landscapes in her photography. Her paintings are created from many generic intakes, magazine covers, books, outdoor adventures, water excursions, and memories of her childhood.
Margaret began painting as a child with one brush and a st rip of watercolor paints given by her mother. She was given a Lite Brite to create color patterns, a Blimp model to build and create messages. Anything to use her hands and challenge her brain, she faught hard. As an only child, she marveled at the results she could produce without help. Little did she know, her influence was her mother, a dedicated patron to the Fine Arts Center in Camden, SC. Margaret's environment was art, music, love and entertainment. As Margaret grew older, her Etch A Sketch went with her. Her mom directed plays, practiced the organ for Sunday Church service, played Bridge, tennis, and it gave her something to do while watching her mom's talent and time pass. Eventually, Margaret met other Artists who she watched paint. Sometimes, she was the understudy.
Margaret found her new love with Art three years ago. She cleaned out her closets and found supplies of her grandmother‘s that she put away following her death. Since then, all she does is paint and she is self taught. She uses her photography for ideas, such as seascapes, nature, still life, or just a mood. She has also published three photography books that are large sized for a coffee table. Margaret wants to continue painting full-time. It is an outlet for her soul and she paints to bring joy to people who struggle with mental health or just need cheering up.
Today, Margaret is currently working on waves and oceans, color and movement.
